I’m a software engineer and self-published scifi/fantasy writer, based in Galway, Ireland. I’m working on two ongoing series: Connacht Disaster Zone, and Remittance Witch.
Most of my blog posts are draft chapters or stories for the above series, with occasional dips into game development and general software development as well.
Connacht Disaster Zone
This is my main series, a dark scifi/fantasy/horror series set in pre-WW1 Connemara. In this universe, Connemara is the home of the dwarves of Ireland, prior to reality going out to lunch in the mid 19th Century.
I have 5 self-published collections of short stories in this series available – follow the links below to view tasters and store links!
The Cruagh Island Affair – a collection of stories that focuses on an illegal laboratory off the coast of Ireland, and two teenagers coming to terms with being forcibly experimented on. Grew out of an abandoned novel.
Tales From A Fomorian Detention Centre
Few Fomorians manage to escape the quarantine zone. Fewer still manage to provide insight into how they mutated.
Spy fiction meets scifi in the low-intensity conflict around Ireland as the dwarves and Brits attempt to keep the area sealed off, and other powers attempt to exploit it.
Fomorians who escaped the disaster zone put their thoughts to paper. This started life as a series of blog posts, and is completely free to download.
Forgetting How To Physics – a collection of surreal horror/humour focussing on reality going out to lunch. Gravity suddenly reversing? People’s heads randomly swelling up to three times their normal size?
Those are just another day west of the Corrib.
Remittance Witch
A secondary work-in-progress in which I try writing a novel instead of short stories. It’s set in a constructed world that blends Westerns with fantasy, and is heavily inspired by Skyrim and Patagonia.
Artwork
Most of my artwork is intended to go with my writing. Some of my best bits are shown below.
Game Development
I used Unity3D for about a decade. My first project was actually my Master’s thesis on tactical pathfinding, and after that, I did it as a side hobby. Most of those projects can be found above under the Game Development link.
I’ve started teaching myself Godot as well, though I don’t have any public projects for that yet.
Where else to find or follow me
I don’t much care for social media for various reasons. The closest place you can find me is on Mastodon and on Youtube (mainly for art recordings).
